Partners in Education Ministry Supports DeKalb Schools Mentoring Programs

Members of the Victory Partners in Education (PIE) Ministry have completed qualifications to become active volunteers in two DeKalb County School System (DCSS) mentoring programs. PIE began meeting with school administrators at four local DeKalb County Schools as part of their expanded outreach in the 2017-2018 school year. To optimize their efforts to support the schools, PIE members were required to complete DCSS background checks.

The mentoring programs at Stone Mountain Middle School and Elizabeth Andrews High School will launch in mid-March with six PIE members serving on the ground floor. PIE Ministry Coordinator Lynn Prime said, "The PIE members will work with students on the campuses of Elizabeth Andrews HS and Stone Mountain MS as soon as our volunteers are scheduled."

Dr. Kenneth L. Samuel Inspires Young Readers During Black History Month

Victory PIE Ministry Coordinator Lynn Prime recently reported on Victory Pastor Dr. Kenneth L. Samuel's visit to Stone Mill Elementary School. "Each year during Black History Month, Dr. Samuel visits Stone Mill Elementary School to read to the students. This year he read A Patchwork Path: A Quilt Map to Freedom, a children's book about how quilts played an important role in directing slaves to Underground Railroad stops on their way to freedom.

Eager and engaged, Stone Mill Elementary School third graders hope to answer as Dr. Samuel encourages them to share their observations. Dr. Samuel was a featured guest reader at Stone Mill Elementary School, one of the PIE Ministry focus schools, during Black History Month 2018.
